President Prabowo Subianto received a courtesy call from Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (15/6/2026). One of the key topics discussed was Qatar’s investment commitment of US$4 billion, or approximately Rp70.80 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp17,700 per US dollar). The meeting addressed strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar, including investment cooperation and preparations for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya outlined three points from the meeting. Firstly, the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs conveyed warm greetings and appreciation from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to President Prabowo. ‘The Emir of Qatar also expressed appreciation for President Prabowo’s leadership and Indonesia’s economic progress, particularly support for health, education, and nutritious meal programmes,’ said Teddy, quoting an official statement. Secondly, discussions were held regarding the Emir of Qatar’s planned visit to Indonesia at the end of 2026. The visit is expected to serve as an important momentum in commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Qatar. Thirdly, Teddy stated that the Qatari side also conveyed plans to expand investment across various sectors. ‘Reaffirming the Qatari Government’s commitment to US$4 billion in investment in Indonesia, as well as plans to expand investment in various other strategic sectors,’ he said.
