Meeting Gibran, MPR Quiz Participants Receive Public Speaking Tips

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka gave motivation and public speaking tips to participants in the MPR’s Four Pillars Quiz Competition from SMAN 1 Pontianak when receiving them at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5). One of the participants, Josepha Alexandra or Ocha, said that she and her team received direct input from Gibran regarding how to speak and debate in public. The meeting lasted in private for about one hour. “We were given motivation and tips and tricks on how to do public speaking or debate in public,” said Ocha, citing detikcom. Ocha admitted she was delighted to meet the Vice President directly. She said the meeting became an encouragement for her and her team to continue learning and achieving. “Of course, I feel very happy because we were invited by the Vice President of Indonesia, and this becomes a hope and encouragement for us to keep moving forward and developing,” she stated. She said the SMAN 1 Pontianak team departed for Jakarta since Tuesday afternoon (12/5). In the meeting, she said, Gibran also gave motivation for the participants to continue improving their abilities and achievements. “In there, we were given motivation by Mr Vice President to keep learning and achieving,” she said. Ocha’s name previously drew public attention after a video of her protesting the judges’ decision in the MPR’s Four Pillars Quiz Competition circulated on social media. In the video, she questioned the difference in scoring for similar answers between participants. At that time, Group C from SMAN 1 Pontianak received a deduction of five points for an answer related to the process of selecting BPK members. Meanwhile, a similar answer from Group B of SMAN 1 Sambas received 10 points from the same judges. Participants from SMAN 1 Pontianak once raised objections because they felt their answer was no different. However, the judges stated that Group C’s answer was considered not to clearly mention the Regional Representative Council (DPD). In response to the controversy, the MPR RI decided to deactivate the judges in the competition. The MPR also stated it would conduct a comprehensive evaluation and hold a re-run of the quiz competition.
