St. Petersburg – Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow is prepared to make “every effort within its power” to ensure peace is achieved in the Middle East. The statement was delivered by Putin during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi in St. Petersburg on Monday local time.

Citing the Russian news agency TASS, Putin emphasised that Russia will act in the interests of Iran and the wider region. He also expressed his hope that peace could be achieved “as soon as possible.”

In a report from Al Mayadeen, Putin praised the Iranian people, whom he described as “struggling bravely and heroically for their sovereignty.” He also voiced hope that the Iranian nation would overcome the “difficult times” full of trials it is currently facing.

Putin confirmed that he had received a special message from Iran’s supreme leadership. He asked Aragchi to convey his thanks and warm greetings back to Tehran.

According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Putin reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to maintaining and developing strategic relations with Iran. He stated that this cooperation would continue to be strengthened despite the regional tensions still enveloping the area. Russia’s efforts, Putin added, are aimed not only at Iran’s interests but also at the stability of all countries in the region.

On the other hand, Foreign Minister Aragchi said he was “very pleased” to meet Putin and to deliver greetings from Iran’s leaders, including President Masoud Pezeshkian. He described the relationship between Tehran and Moscow as a “highest-level strategic partnership” that would remain solid in any situation.

Aragchi also expressed appreciation for Russia’s support during the war period, while affirming that Iran would continue to resist US pressures to defend its national interests.
