The Houthi group in Yemen has reportedly attacked Medina. The power plant supplying Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, one of the holiest sites in Islam, was also hit by a drone.

Reports published by Reuters on Friday (2/10/2026) cited the Saudi-led coalition. Riyadh itself has been involved in exchanges of fire and mutual attacks with the Houthis for several months.

“The attack caused one transformer to malfunction, but it did not affect the power grid,” the coalition stated in an announcement on Thursday.

A Houthi military source, quoted by the Houthi-run Saba news agency, denied the coalition’s report. The Houthi group subsequently reported Saudi attacks on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and other regions in Yemen, though there has been no direct confirmation from Saudi Arabia regarding those strikes.

Hostilities resumed this year after the Houthis announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in July and began attacking Saudi territories and shipping, while Houthi forces also gained significant territory along the Yemeni Red Sea coast. Saudi Arabia responded with airstrikes in Yemen and supported government forces fighting to expel the Houthis.

Two weeks ago, Saudi Arabia stated that they had intercepted and destroyed Houthi unmanned aerial vehicles south of Mecca before they entered restricted airspace over the city. The coalition described the incident as the second attempt by the Houthis to target Mecca since 2017, while the Houthis denied targeting Mecca or any other Islamic holy sites.

The coalition stated that the attack in Medina is part of what they describe as repeated Houthi attempts to target the Two Holy Mosques and “provoke” Muslims worldwide. They stated they will continue to take action to protect holy sites and pilgrims.

The coalition also stated they had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards the city of Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia. They did not provide details regarding damage or casualties.

Local officials said on Friday morning that the Houthis also targeted the command headquarters of the Saudi-led coalition in Aden with several ballistic missiles and drones. There has been no direct comment from either the coalition or the Houthis.
