Jakarta – The government has intervened in handling the case of Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), who became a victim of an acid attack. The entire medical treatment costs for the victim will be borne by the state.

The Indonesian Health Ministry (Kemenkes) stated that Andrie, currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM), need not worry about treatment costs. “Yes, he is being treated at RSCM and we will provide it free of charge,” said Health Ministry Spokesperson Widyawati to journalists on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

Amid intensive medical management, Andrie’s condition is gradually improving. The medical team has confirmed his condition is now stable and not life-threatening. “Currently, the patient’s general condition is stable and not life-threatening,” stated the official statement from RSCM.

Nevertheless, the recovery process remains lengthy. RSCM revealed that treatment will be carried out in stages, including consideration of tissue reconstruction procedures to restore the victim’s vision function.

Previously reported, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus to be conducted professionally, transparently and employing scientific investigative methods.

“With regard to the activist acid attack incident, I have received a direct order from the President to conduct a thorough investigation professionally and transparently,” said Sigit whilst inspecting Gubeng Station in Surabaya on Sunday.

He explained that the investigation process is being conducted using a scientific crime investigation approach to ensure every stage of the case is handled objectively and based on evidence. “We are currently gathering various information related to the incident which we will then examine one by one,” he added.
