Feeling patriotic to the country, I moved to Irian Jaya to
settle in Sorong. With regard to the country's good intentions to
improve community health conditions in the eastern part of
Indonesia, what do medical specialists experience there? We
cannot work to our optimum.

The inadequate amount of equipment in the general hospital
compels us to refer most cases to private hospitals. There is no
housing for specialists, so they mostly stay with citizens or
dispensary owners.

Specialists do not receive an allowance, despite the cost of
living being high and salaries not being transferred. It is
strange that doctors whose salaries are paid in Irian Jaya do not
receive payment if they are on duty outside Irian Jaya.

I request the help of the authorities to find ways to solve
the problem, so that the spirit of dedication among specialists
will not fade due to things that should not be happening.
