Medical industry needs workers

JAKARTA: The medical industry needs 21,057 workers to be employed in pharmaceutical companies, drug stores, cosmetics factories, hospitals, medical equipment companies and traditional medicine firms.

The Association of Pharmaceutical Product Manufacturers chairman, Anthony Ch. Sunarjo, said on Friday that big pharmaceutical firms may currently have an ideal composition of workers but most small and medium-scale firms in the industry still lacked employees.

Speaking at a seminar on Education and the Pharmaceutical Profession, he also reminded Indonesian workers in the field to prepare for stiff competition in the upcoming free trade area.

"It is possible that they will fail in the competition with foreign workers if they do not adjust to market demand," Anthony said. --Antara
