Medical check-ups from military

JAKARTA (JP): More than 1,700 Tambora residents in West Jakarta received free medical check-ups yesterday from the Jakarta Military Command in a public-service activity to commemorate its 42nd anniversary this year.

Commander Maj. Gen. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said the free treatments were aimed at building a closer a relationship between military command members and the city residents.

"I do hope that soldiers always remember that they are also from the people. So they are expected to serve the public," Sjafrie said.

The medical services were offered at Tambora apartments on Jl. Raya Kali Angke and treatments included cataract and harelip operations and circumcisions.

In a speech, Sjafrie thanked the team of doctors from nearby Husada Hospital and other parties who helped the military command carry out yesterday's activity. (jun)
