MediaTek introduces Dimensity 9600 Pro as its first 2nm chip

The semiconductor company MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 9600 Pro as its first two-nanometre (nm) chip.

According to a report by GSM Arena on Tuesday (15/9), the chip, featuring the latest CPU and GPU designs from Arm, offers significant performance enhancements across various aspects, with a primary focus on artificial intelligence computing performance.

The CPU configuration in this chip consists of two Ultra-class CPU cores, promising a 17 per cent increase in single-core performance and a 37 per cent improvement in efficiency. For multi-threaded tasks, the CPU performance is 15 per cent higher, while efficiency is 61 per cent better.

The GPU utilised in the Dimensity 9600 Pro is the Mali-G2 Ultra NX, supporting frame rates of over 185+ fps. The peak performance of this GPU is 27 per cent higher than the previous generation, its ray tracing is 18 per cent faster, and its power efficiency is 24 per cent higher.

The chip supports LPDDR5X and LPDTR6 RAM technologies, as well as UFS 5.0 internal storage memory.

Furthermore, the chip is capable of delivering a 55 per cent increase in token generation performance per watt and a 51 per cent improvement in prompt response speed. The Dimensity 9600 Pro also allows the ISP to connect directly with the NPU, utilising it for photo and video processing.

The chip supports camera sensors up to 200MP and video recording up to 8K resolution at 60fps. Its video decoding engine now also supports the VVC or H.266 format.

The first smartphone to utilise the Dimensity 9600 Pro has already been announced: the OPPO Find X10 Pro Max.
