MediaMIND Opens Platform to Highlight Regional Mining Stories

Jakarta (ANTARA) — MediaMILD 2026 is providing a platform for journalists from Bangka Belitung to bring the experiences and realities of tin mining to a wider audience.

This journalism competition, initiated by the Indonesian mining industry holding company MIND ID, serves as an arena for regional reporters to present a more complete perspective, drawing from their proximity to mining activities and the lives of the surrounding communities.

“This is my first time participating in MediaMIND. In my opinion, activities like this are important because journalists in Bangka Belitung possess many experiences and stories regarding tin mining that can be brought not only to the national level but even further,” said Alza Munzi, a journalist from Jurnal Indonesia, following the MediaMIND 2026 socialisation at PT Timah Tbk on Wednesday (9/9/2026).

He added that reporting on the mining sector presents its own set of challenges, ranging from accessing sources to field dynamics. However, from these experiences, various stories emerge that are capable of presenting a closer and more humanistic viewpoint.

Alza plans to highlight issues concerning vulnerable groups, such as women and children affected by mining activities. According to him, such issues are still rarely addressed, despite their connection to social changes and empowerment programmes currently running in the community.

Rahmat Taufik, Division Head of CSR at PT Timah Tbk, stated that MediaMIND serves as a space to strengthen communication between companies, the media, and academics, so that public understanding of the mining industry can be formed more comprehensively.

“The hope is that through MediaMIND, new perspectives regarding PT Timah will emerge. The company does not only engage in mining activities but also strives to provide benefits to the community, through economic empowerment, education, health, and sustainability programmes,” said Rahmat.
