Washington - The Pentagon has informed its European partners of its intention to reduce certain US military assets deployed to NATO in potential crisis situations, according to a Fox News report on Thursday citing officials familiar with the matter.

A senior Pentagon representative shared details of the planned adjustments during a NATO Defence Policy Directors meeting in Brussels on Friday, the report stated.

The administration aims to reduce certain key capabilities by approximately a third to half, including strategic bombers, fighter jets, and specific naval forces, the report added.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell acknowledged the changes in a statement, describing them as an opportunity for allies to increase their role.

“The Department of Defense announced changes to the US contribution to the NATO Force Model at a Defence Policy Directors meeting in Brussels,” Parnell said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital.

“These changes present an opportunity for allies to demonstrate they have heeded President Trump’s call to enhance their role and take primary responsibility for conventional European defence,” he added.

Parnell stressed that NATO allies must immediately increase defence spending in line with their Hague Summit commitments, focusing on specific combat capabilities most needed for European defence.
