Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran has submitted a counter-proposal containing 14 points to the United States (US), calling for a permanent cessation of hostilities and a full withdrawal of US troops from the region, according to a report from the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

The proposal was conveyed through an intermediary, Pakistan, in response to a nine-point proposal from the US, Tasnim stated on Saturday (2/5).

While Washington’s proposal calls for a two-month ceasefire, Tehran proposes a 30-day timeframe to resolve major issues, insisting that talks must focus on “ending the war” rather than a temporary ceasefire, the Tasnim report revealed.

Iran’s demands include the withdrawal of US troops from areas near its borders and guarantees against aggression, as well as economic measures such as lifting the naval blockade, releasing Iran’s frozen assets, easing sanctions, and providing compensation.

The proposal also calls for an end to fighting on various fronts, including in Lebanon, and the establishment of a new governance mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments.

Iran is awaiting an official response from US officials, the Tasnim report stated.

State media mentioned that Iran submitted a new proposal for negotiations through Pakistan on Tuesday (28/4).

On 28 February, Israel and the US launched joint strikes against Tehran and other Iranian cities, killing Iran’s then-supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, along with several senior commanders and Iranian civilians.

Iran retaliated with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US interests in the Middle East region.

A ceasefire took effect on 8 April, followed by negotiations between Iranian and US delegations in Islamabad that failed to produce an agreement.
