Media Report: Hamas Agrees to Begin Surrender of Heavy Weaponry

Beirut (ANTARA) - Hamas and other Palestinian factions have agreed to begin the process of inventorying and surrendering heavy weapons, military production facilities, armouries, and tunnels in the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reported, citing a draft document.

On Thursday night, United States President Donald Trump stated that an agreement has been reached regarding the full disarmament of Hamas and other groups in the Gaza Strip. Trump indicated that Israel will withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip once the disarmament of the armed groups has been completed.

According to the document, the process will commence after all remaining obligations under the Sharm el-Sheikh Protocol have been fulfilled, Al Jazeera reported on Friday. The draft calls for the establishment of an implementation schedule within 14 days, a period that may be extended based on the decision of an international oversight commission.

The withdrawal of Israeli troops is to be conducted in parallel with the surrender of weapons by Palestinian factions, in accordance with the tenth point of the roadmap. The report noted that an international oversight commission, supported by international forces, will supervise the process and verify the implementation of these activities.

Under the published provisions, the document does not currently arrange for the direct handover of all weapons to a third party, but instead establishes a mechanism for the inventory, storage, and monitoring of the weaponry.

On 9 October 2025, Israel and Hamas, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey, agreed to the implementation of the first stage of the peace plan proposed by Trump. A day later, a ceasefire came into effect in Gaza. In accordance with the agreement, Israeli forces withdrew to a line referred to as the ‘Yellow Line’, but maintained control over more than 50 per cent of the Gaza Strip territory.
