Medan to host veteran basketball

JAKARTA (JP): Veteran basketball players from 23 countries
will display their skills during a tournament in Medan, North
Sumatra from Nov. 22 to 26.

Committee chairman Ali Susanto said yesterday that the United
States would parade eight teams, with China and Chinese Taipei
each presenting seven. Other countries will include the
Netherlands, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the
Philippines and host Indonesia.

The veteran men's and women's cagers will be split into three
age groups: 35, 25 and 55. Taiwanese teams swept all the titles
last year.

The competition will be held at the Pardede Hall and four
renowned sports halls in Medan and Binjai. Chairman of the
Indonesian Basketball Association, Harmoko, is scheduled to open
the championships. (amd)
