Medan Resident Seeks Wi-Fi to Contact Family During Power Outage

Several main roads were left in darkness due to a power outage that affected street lighting and traffic signals, including Jalan Balai Kota, Jalan Guru Patimpus, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Gajah Mada and Jalan S. Parman. A resident, Risma, said the outage occurred around 18:45 WIB. At the time, she was performing the Maghrib prayer at a mosque on Jalan Sei Deli. “I was praying when the power suddenly went out. I prayed in darkness, but the imam’s voice could still be heard, so I could still join the congregation,” she said. Risma described being surprised when mobile internet connectivity on her phone dropped. She then looked for places offering Wi-Fi so she could contact her family. “I went round looking for Wi‑Fi to contact my family, to ask how my house was faring. The network suddenly disappeared completely,” she said.
