Medan prosecutors' extortion case against contractor in Kupang reported to the Attorney General's Office and the DPR
An alleged extortion case involving contractor Hironimus Sonbay, also known as Roni, and involving Medan District Attorney Ridwan Sujana Angsar together with Noven Verderikus Bulan, the Coordinator of General Crimes (Pidum) at the East Nusa Tenggara High Prosecutor’s Office, has been officially reported to the Attorney General’s Office (Kejaksaan Agung) and to Commission III of the DPR.
Roni Sonbay’s lawyer, Fransisco Bessi, said the report was filed on Thursday (21 May 2026) together with Roni’s younger brother. The complaint concerns alleged extortion and breaches of the code of ethics by the two prosecutors.
“Yesterday we officially reported the two prosecutors to the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia, Jamwas, Jamintel, Komjak, and Commission 3 of the DPR,” Fransisco said when contacted by detikBali on Friday (22 May 2026).
According to Fransisco, the five agencies gave a positive response to following up the complaint. He expressed hope that the report would be processed further. “Roughly five agencies gave us a very good response,” he said.
Extortion Victims Increase to Two People
Fransisco stressed that the extortion victims have now increased to two individuals: Roni Sonbay and Didik Haryadi Brand. Both victims have been questioned by the Aswas (Oversight Assistant) at Kejati NTT.
“This is the most important development because now there are two parties who have become victims of extortion. Although I am not Didik Haryadi Brand’s lawyer, I have obtained data and sufficient evidence of the extortion,” Fransisco explained.
According to Fransisco, the extortion evidence alleged to have been committed by Ridwan Sujana Angsar against Didik is clear in terms of the amount. This is supported by WhatsApp conversations and a transfer of Rp 6.7 million for a hotel payment in Malang.
“That is very clear because RA (Ridwan Sujana Angsar) sent the recipient’s account number, then Didik paid, and the payment receipt was sent and received by the prosecutor RA. This proves that the person is problematic because there have already been two reports,” Fransisco said.
He indicated that there may still be more reports from other victims related to the extortion alleged to have been carried out by Ridwan Sujana Angsar. He stated that similar cases are not appropriate to be attached to a Medan Kajari.
“With such criteria, it is not appropriate for him to be the Kajari in Medan,” Fransisco asserted.
In the case, Fransisco urged the Attorney General’s Office to remove Ridwan Sujana Angsar from his post and to process him ethically. He also said he and the victims’ families would pursue criminal charges.
“We urge that the prosecutor RA be removed and subjected to ethical proceedings so that the investigation is transparent. We will also pursue criminal charges,” Fransisco said.
He hoped that the people of NTT and the public would support and closely monitor the case so that it is handled seriously, professionally, and without prejudice.
Fransisco added that the report to Commission III DPR was received by three staffers. He said they welcomed the public’s willingness to report similar incidents, noting that there is always potential for counter-attacks, intimidation, and criminalisation.
“But because we have moved forward, there is no longer any word to retreat in pursuing the case. Regarding the planned hearing of facts (RDP), they are still reviewing our report. Therefore, we hope it will be conducted as soon as possible since I have clearly requested an RDP via an official letter,” Fransisco concluded.
Meanwhile, Ridwan Sujana Angsar has not yet responded to detikBali’s requests for confirmation via message or WhatsApp calls.
