The North Sumatra Regional Police’s Profession and Security Division (Propam) is investigating an officer from the Medan Sunggal Police following the death of his wife, identified as L, who is suspected of taking her own life using her husband’s service weapon.

North Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Ferry Walintukan, confirmed that the husband is a member of the National Police serving at the Medan Sunggal Police under the Medan Metropolitan Police jurisdiction. “It is true, the wife of a police officer serving at the Medan Sunggal Police,” Ferry said when contacted on Monday (3/8).

Ferry explained that Propam is examining various aspects of the incident that resulted in L’s death. “Propam is still investigating, we are looking deeper into this. The husband is still under examination. The investigation process is ongoing,” he stated.

He added that the North Sumatra Police have also received the results of a forensic laboratory examination regarding the cause of L’s death. Based on these results, the victim was declared to have died from a suspected suicide using her husband’s firearm. “The results from our forensic lab confirm it was a suicide,” Ferry said.

L, a 35-year-old woman, was previously found dead at her home in the Bumi Asri Complex, Cinta Damai Village, Medan Helvetia District, Medan City, on Sunday (2/8).
