Medan police launch SMS service

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Medan police have launched a Short Messaging System (SMS) service, allowing the public to report any criminal acts to police. Chief of Medan police Sr. Comr. Irawan Dahlan said on Friday that the service had been opened to the public since Wednesday.

Thuggery has been rampant in the city, sparking public concern.

Those who wished to use the service can send an SMS to 0811651978, said Irawan.

The service was launched following declaration by the national police headquarters against thuggery and gambling. -- JP
