Medan People's School: Building Character for Students' Future
Students from various educational levels participated in the Taruna Mengajar programme at Integrated People’s School 2 in Medan, North Sumatra, from 3-7 August 2026. The learning atmosphere across the six-hectare school complex was distinctive, with some lessons delivered in open spaces to create a more comfortable and enjoyable environment. Cadets from Magelang provided various materials, including strengthening national values in daily life for senior high school students. The students were encouraged to understand the importance of discipline, responsibility, mutual respect, and love for the nation and state. The material was delivered interactively using audiovisual media via television, through which students were shown examples of positive behaviour such as respecting teachers, avoiding bullying, helping friends, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and being devoted to parents. Student enthusiasm grew as instructors motivated them to study diligently, with the hope that the lessons learned would serve as a foundation for their education and community life. Aldino (17) and Bima (18), Year 11 students, felt the activity was highly beneficial and helped shape better character. “The material presented was excellent. Our knowledge has increased and can be applied both at school and at home,” Bima said. Hanif (16) shared a similar view, noting the material from the cadets was very useful, especially after having previously undergone the School Environment Introduction Period.
