Medan MSMEs Strengthen Business Foundations Through UMKM Pintar Digital Solutions
Hundreds of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) actors in Medan attended the UMKM Digital Finance Tour – Medan Edition at Hotel Aryaduta Medan, North Sumatra, on Thursday (27/8/2026). The event encouraged MSME actors to strengthen business governance and financial management through the use of digital solutions.
During the event, participants were introduced to the UMKM Pintar platform, a collaboration between PT Bank SeaBank Indonesia (SeaBank), Women’s World Banking, and Platform Usaha Sosial (PLUS). The platform provides several features to help MSME actors manage finances and assess business conditions, including a cost of goods sold (HPP) calculator and a loan calculator.
One participant, Miftah Fatimah Salena Nasution, a sambal entrepreneur from Medan, said financial management is one of the challenges in running her business. “So far our business system has moved from bazaar to bazaar with an inconsistent team. The biggest challenge is financial management; we only think about shopping, selling, getting money, then rotating it again without taking the time to calculate what percentage of net profit is actually obtained,” said Miftah.
According to her, the HPP calculator feature on UMKM Pintar helps her understand production cost calculations and business profits more easily. “The HPP calculator feature is very useful and helps entrepreneurs, especially women who are busy and do not have a dedicated team. It is very easy to use, just input data and the menus are easy to understand,” she said.
Eni, a frozen food business owner who attended the event, expressed a similar view. She assessed that the recording and calculation features on the UMKM Pintar platform can help business owners who previously still relied on manual recording. “It is very easy to use, just type and the results come out immediately. The most useful features for me are the HPP Calculator and Loan Calculator. We can know whether our profit margin is reasonable or not,” said Eni.
She added that the loan simulation on the platform can also serve as a consideration for MSME actors before taking additional capital.
Meanwhile, President Director of SeaBank Indonesia Sasmaya Tuhuleley said MSME digitalisation is not only related to financial transactions, but also to improving the ability of business actors to manage their businesses. “We do not only play a role in providing financial services, but are also committed to encouraging digitalisation through financial management education, which is still largely done manually. We want to help business actors manage finances and understand their business performance in a more directed way, so they can make the right strategic decisions,” said Sasmaya.
He said the UMKM Pintar platform can be accessed free of charge by the public, both SeaBank customers and non-customers. “With this inclusive approach, we hope the benefits of this platform can reach more MSME actors, especially women in various regions in Indonesia, without access barriers,” he said.
For Miftah, the use of technology in business recording can help MSME actors run their businesses in a more organised and sustainable manner. “My hope is that fellow MSME friends should try this platform because it is very helpful. Recording that used to be in books and often lost is now much neater. Hopefully our MSMEs can continue to grow,” she said.
Through the UMKM Digital Finance Tour, SeaBank stated it will continue to encourage the use of digital solutions and financial management education for MSME actors in Medan and several other regions.
