Medan (ANTARA) — Medan Mayor Rico TP Waas has urged all residents not to be afraid of reporting drug trafficking activities discovered in their respective areas.

“We hope the public can continue to report any suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods,” he said in Medan on Sunday.

He stated that the drug problem in Medan has become a particular concern for the government, as the city is one of the regions with the highest rates of narcotics abuse.

According to the mayor, the role and contribution of all elements of society, including ordinary citizens, are vital in the eradication of illicit substances.

He called on all members of the community to strengthen coordination and report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.

“The role and contribution of every element of society is a source of strength in combating drugs. Let us work together to make Medan free from narcotics,” he said.

The mayor previously expressed his appreciation for the Medan Metropolitan Police, who successfully uncovered 526 drug cases during the first 100 days in the area under his leadership.

He said the resolution of these cases demonstrated the local police force’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Medan.

“We commend the Medan Metropolitan Police, who over 100 days have uncovered 526 drug cases involving 718 suspects,” he said.

He affirmed that the municipal government remains committed to supporting the Medan Metropolitan Police and its precinct-level units in the fight against narcotics in Medan.

“We are ready to work in synergy on case resolution,” he said.
