Medan Mayor Calls on Public to Support 2026 Economic Census

Medan (ANTARA) - The Mayor of Medan, Rico Tri Putra Waas, has invited all elements of society to contribute to the success of the 2026 Economic Census, which is being conducted by the local Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

“This census encompasses the entire community, including myself. Therefore, let us ensure the success of the 2026 Economic Census,” said Rico Waas after receiving BPS officials involved in the 2026 Economic Census data collection in Medan on Wednesday.

Rico Waas noted that this activity, which takes place once every ten years, requires the role and contribution of all community members. According to him, providing honest, complete, and transparent information is a vital element in the data collection process by officials.

He stated that the data obtained through this activity is crucial as it will serve as the basis for formulating various future development policies.

“The 2026 Economic Census is an important momentum to observe the real condition of the current economy. The last census was conducted in 2016, and this year it is being held simultaneously across Indonesia, including in Medan,” he said.

Therefore, he urged all members of the community to be proactive in this activity by providing the necessary information so that the data collection process in the region proceeds smoothly. He encouraged the residents under his leadership to set an example for others in supporting government programmes.

“The public does not need to worry about participating in the data collection, as all data collected by BPS is guaranteed to be confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes,” he added.

BPS Medan is deploying 1,547 statistical partner officers for the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census in Medan. These officers will be deployed in the field to conduct direct door-to-door data collection at residences and business premises across Medan from 15 June to 31 August 2026.
