Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas has called on all elements of society to contribute to the success of the 2026 Economic Census being carried out by the local Statistics Indonesia (BPS) office. “This census covers the entire community, including myself. So let us make the 2026 Economic Census a success,” Waas said after receiving BPS officers for the census data collection in Medan on Wednesday. He noted that the decennial activity requires the participation and contribution of all community elements. Honest, complete, and transparent information from the public is a vital element in the officers’ data collection process, he added. The data obtained through this activity is very important, as it will serve as the basis for formulating various future development policies. “The 2026 Economic Census is an important momentum to see the real condition of the economy today. It was last held in 2016 and is now being conducted simultaneously across Indonesia, including in Medan,” he stated. He therefore encouraged all community elements to be proactive by providing proper information so that the data collection process in the region runs smoothly. He also invited residents to set an example for other communities in supporting government programmes. “The public does not need to worry about participating in the data collection because all data collected by BPS is guaranteed confidentiality and is used solely for statistical purposes,” he said. BPS Medan City has deployed 1,547 partner statistical officers to carry out the Economic Census 2026. These officers will go door-to-door to residences and business premises to conduct direct data collection from 15 June to 31 August 2026.
