Medan Hajj Pilgrim Passes Away During Treatment in Holy Land
A hajj pilgrim from Medan, North Sumatra, has passed away while undergoing treatment in the Holy Land, according to the Medan Debarkation Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH). “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. Hajj pilgrim Marlina Ikin Sabrani from group (kloter) 14 has died,” stated Medan PPIH Chairman Zulkifli Sitorus at the Medan Hajj Dormitory on Friday.
The deceased, 60-year-old Marlina, had been suffering from fever, cough, and shortness of breath, leading to her treatment at the German Saudi Hospital in Mecca on Thursday, 11 June. She was taken to the hospital after medical officers conducted laboratory tests and a chest X-ray at the Indonesian Hajj Health Clinic in Mecca on Thursday, 4 June.
“The lab results showed a haemoglobin level of 4.2 mg/dl, and the chest X-ray indicated a left pleural effusion. Upon arrival at the hospital, the patient became increasingly weak, her breathing difficulties worsened, and she was admitted to the ICU,” Zulkifli explained. According to the hospital’s medical team analysis, Marlina suffered from severe pneumonia caused by a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection, along with other illnesses.
Marlina Ikin Sabrani was a doctor who previously served as the head of the Medan Johor Community Health Centre (Puskesmas) and departed for the pilgrimage with her family. “Mrs Marlina was treated in the ICU for seven days. She was pronounced dead on Thursday, 25 Dzulhijah 1447 Hijriah, or 11 June 2026, at 17:10 Saudi Arabian time,” Zulkifli said.
PPIH Debarkasi Medan data records that six other pilgrims from North Sumatra have died in the Holy Land. They include Kasiani (69) from Medan, who died from respiratory illness on 13 May; Isron bin Baitul Nasution from Mandailing Natal, who died from illness on 27 May; Nadhirah binti Sirajuddin (66) from Langkat, who died from a heart condition on 29 May; Nurliana (59), who died from a heart condition on 4 June; Teuku Eddi Gusmar (58) from Medan, who died from a heart condition on 2 June; and Awaluddin Hutasuhut bin Zainal Abidin (54) from South Tapanuli, who died from illness on 11 June. “Ibu Marlina is the seventh pilgrim, as two pilgrims from North Sumatra died in the Holy Land on the same day,” Zulkifli concluded.
