The Medan City Government in North Sumatra will hold the Melayu Serumpun event for the ninth time, inviting a number of friendly nations. Head of the Medan Tourism Department, Odi Batubara, stated on Friday that the annual municipal event will take place from 27 to 30 June 2026. “This activity will be attended by various countries and will be held over four days,” he said. He noted that the event, which will be attended by six friendly nations, will feature a series of activities and performances by delegates from various countries. “This activity also aims to strengthen the dignity and identity of the Malay ethnic group through cultural arts activities,” he said. According to him, the event also serves as a means to familiarise Malay culture with non-Malay communities, both locally, nationally, and internationally. The event is also an effort to develop Medan City’s creative economy by providing facilities and infrastructure to promote Medan’s flagship products. “The event will be attended by friendly nations, such as Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, and China,” he said.
