Medan City Government Targets Installation of 1,000 Street Lights by End of 2026
The Medan City Government in North Sumatra targets the installation of 1,000 public street lights (LPJU) across all districts by the end of 2026.
The Mayor of Medan, Rico Tri Putra Waas, stated that this policy represents a commitment to providing a sense of security and comfort for the community, particularly in areas with minimal lighting.
Rico Waas noted that the installation will be carried out gradually across the 21 districts under his leadership. Specifically in North Medan, installations will take place at 183 points spread across the Marelan, Medan Labuhan, Medan Deli, and Medan Belawan districts.
“This programme is not only oriented towards street lighting, but also serves as an effort to improve the quality of environmental infrastructure,” he said.
Moving forward, he added that the installation of these public facilities will be intensified, with a target of 5,000 street lights by 2027.
“This is part of our target to ensure that the need for street lighting throughout the Medan City area can be met,” he remarked.
The Mayor emphasised that environmental comfort and security are among the local government’s priorities in managing the region. He concluded by stating that lighting facilities will be organised and increased equitably.
