The Medan City Government, North Sumatra, is awaiting technical guidelines on the transfer of employment status for teachers holding Government Employee with Work Agreement (PPPK) positions to central government employees.

“We are waiting for the technical guidelines,” said Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas in Medan on Wednesday.

He stressed that his administration will implement all policies decided by the central government, including the transfer of PPPK status for teachers.

Rico said his staff will review all regulations once the policy has been implemented.

“Whatever the decision of the central government, we will carry it out. However, we will examine all of these matters,” he said.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that the employment status of government employees with work agreements who work as teachers will be transferred to central government employees.

He said the policy was an agreement reached in a meeting between the government and the Indonesian House of Representatives. He confirmed that the policy has taken fiscal conditions into account.

“We agreed together that the employment status will be transferred to central employees or central government employees,” said Hadi.

In this regard, he said teachers with part-time PPPK status will be appointed as full-time PPPK. Meanwhile, teachers currently holding full-time PPPK status will have the opportunity to take part in the selection process to become civil servants in 2027.

According to the Medan City Civil Service and Human Resources Development Agency, there are 717 part-time PPPK and 4,500 full-time PPPK in Medan.
