Medan City Government Appreciates Buddha Tzu Chi's Initiative to Renovate 500 Uninhabitable Houses

Medan (ANTARA) - The Medan City Government in North Sumatra has appreciated the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation’s contribution to implementing a strategic programme to renovate 500 uninhabitable houses (RTLH) in the area. “The Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation has consistently helped Medan residents, from flood handling to social assistance,” said Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas during a visit from the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation in Medan on Wednesday. According to him, the programme represents a joint effort to realise habitable houses for the people of Medan City. “The presence of this 500-unit house renovation programme is an extraordinary initial step. In Medan, 61,000 houses need attention,” he said. Rico Waas proposed that the renovation quota be distributed evenly to improve the impact of the repairs, including budget flexibility. He requested that the team ensure the repaired houses have secure and complete legal documents in accordance with government data. Rico Waas hopes this cooperation will be flexible, allowing technical adjustments for maximum results. “The Medan City Government will direct this programme to communities in Decile 1 and Decile 2, the lowest welfare levels,” he stated. North Sumatra Tzu Chi Chairman Mujianto, accompanied by Medan Tzu Chi Emergency Response Team Chairman Timmy Jawira, affirmed the foundation’s commitment to helping underprivileged communities in Medan. “This programme is part of a larger target to repair 5,000 houses in Indonesia. In North Sumatra Province, Medan City is the main focus of the programme,” said Mujianto.
