Medan City Government Announces Implementation Phase for 1,000 Street Light Installations
Medan, North Sumatra — The Medan City Government, North Sumatra, has announced that the implementation phase for the installation of 1,000 public street lights (LPJU) to boost community comfort has officially begun.
“The installation of 1,000 street lights has now entered the implementation stage,” stated the Head of the Medan City Transportation Agency, Irsan Nasution, in Medan on Sunday.
He noted that the work for this city government initiative has been divided into five operational zones. Irsan explained that this division was implemented to ensure the development process is more directed and that lighting needs across various areas can be addressed progressively.
“The 1,000 street light programme has already identified tender winners for each operational zone,” he said.
Irsan explained that the development for Zone I includes the Medan Marelan, Medan Labuhan, and Medan Belawan districts. Zone II covers the Medan Helvetia, Medan Barat, Medan Deli, and Medan Timur districts.
Furthermore, the Medan Tembung, Medan Perjuangan, Medan Amplas, and Medan Denai districts fall under Zone III. Meanwhile, Zone IV encompasses the Medan Polonia, Medan Johor, Medan Selayang, and Medan Tuntungan districts, while Zone V includes the Medan Sunggal, Medan Bar, and Medan Petisah districts.
Irsan added that dividing the project into five zones is a strategic move to oversee the installation of the 1,000 street lights effectively, ensuring they reach areas in need of lighting. “This programme is one of the Medan City Government’s efforts to strengthen street lighting facilities, particularly on road sections identified as requiring additional illumination,” he said.
Previously, the Mayor of Medan, Rico Tri Putra Waas, stated that the installation of the 1,000 street lights is targeted for completion by the end of December 2026.
“By mid-December 2026, the 1,000 street lights are targeted to be finished,” said Rico.
The Mayor emphasised that environmental comfort and security are priorities for the local government in its administration of the region. “Lighting facilities will be organised and increased evenly,” he added.
