Medaeng Prison Officers Foil 20-Gram Meth Smuggling Attempt in Milk Carton

Officers at the Class I Surabaya State Detention Centre, located in Medaeng Village, Waru District, Sidoarjo, successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine on Wednesday (1/7). A female visitor, identified by the initials TS, was arrested after being caught hiding the illicit substance inside a liquid milk carton.

The reckless act was detected thanks to the sharp observation of the search team in the visiting area. Officers became suspicious when they noticed TS’s unnatural movements and signs of nervousness as she approached the inspection post.

In accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), officers intended to conduct a thorough examination of TS’s belongings. However, the suspect initially displayed a defensive attitude and refused to be searched. This behaviour only strengthened the officers’ suspicions on the ground.

Following a detailed inspection, officers discovered a package suspected to contain 20 grams of methamphetamine, neatly concealed inside the liquid milk carton she was carrying.

Based on preliminary questioning, TS admitted she was merely following orders from another person to deliver the item to an inmate inside the detention centre.

The Head of the Class I Surabaya Detention Centre, Tristiantoro Adi Wibowo, commended the alertness of his personnel. He stressed that the firmness of frontline security officers is the key to breaking the chain of drug trafficking into the detention centre.

‘The firmness of frontline security officers is the main key to uncovering this modus,’ Tristiantoro asserted.

As a further legal measure, the Surabaya Detention Centre has handed over the suspect TS along with all evidence to the Sidoarjo Police Narcotics Unit. The case is now being developed by the police to uncover the network involved in the smuggling attempt.
