MD Entertainment Expands IP and Content Business with SBS
PT MD Entertainment Tbk (FILM) is expanding its content business by partnering with SBS Co., Ltd. This collaboration is aimed at developing and monetising intellectual property (IP) through co-production, content adaptation, distribution, and digital business development.
MD Entertainment President Director Manoj Punjabi stated that the collaboration with SBS is a follow-up step after the South Korean company became a strategic shareholder in FILM last year.
“We are combining the best of both parties: SBS’s world-class content and MD Entertainment’s strength in the Indonesian market,” said Manoj during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation in the content and media business on Tuesday (29/09/2026).
The relationship between the two companies has now expanded from strategic investment to operational cooperation. FILM and SBS will develop their content business using Indonesia as a base to explore markets across Southeast Asia and the global market.
One of the initial stages of the cooperation involves bringing SBS programmes to Indonesian viewers via MDTV. Additionally, both companies will develop Indonesian-language remakes derived from the SBS content library.
For FILM, this partnership opens opportunities to expand its IP sources while developing new business models from the content owned by SBS.
The development of this cooperation also encompasses co-production, IP exchange and localisation, joint distribution, as well as collaboration in digital and new media.
Manoj noted that SBS’s previous investment reflected confidence in FILM’s business growth potential. Through this MoU, the company is beginning to transform that strategic investment into more concrete business collaboration.
Meanwhile, Studio S CEO Hong Sung-Chang stated that SBS recognises the growth potential of the Southeast Asian content market and the business capabilities possessed by FILM.
Beyond content development and distribution, the partnership between FILM and SBS may eventually expand into advertising and brand marketing, live performances, and other businesses built from shared IP.
This cooperation also positions Indonesia as one of SBS’s business development bases in the region. With a large domestic market and growing digital content consumption, FILM has the potential to serve as a local partner in the process of localising and distributing SBS content to the Indonesian and regional markets.
