MD Entertainment and SBS Strengthen Strategic Partnership for New Content Collaboration
PT MD Entertainment Tbk (MD Entertainment) and SBS Co., Ltd. (SBS) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding Strategic Cooperation in the Content and Media Business, held at 14:00 WIB at MD Place, Jakarta. This MoU establishes a framework to integrate SBS’s content intellectual property with MD Entertainment’s production and distribution strengths in Indonesia.
This agreement is a continuation of the relationship established last year, when SBS became a strategic shareholder in MD Entertainment through its participation in the Company’s Rights Issue (PMHMETD I), with a total investment of approximately USD 20 million—the largest foreign investment in SBS’s history. This strategic move has now evolved into an operational partnership, where SBS and MD Entertainment will deepen cooperation in content and platforms, while jointly exploring opportunities in Southeast Asia and other global markets, using Indonesia as a strategic hub.
As an initial step, both companies have agreed to bring popular SBS programmes to Indonesian audiences via MDTV, as well as to develop Indonesian-language remakes based on the SBS content library. This collaboration is expected to expand gradually into advertising and brand marketing, live shows, and other businesses built upon shared intellectual property.
Hong Sung-Chang, CEO of Studio S, representing SBS President Bang Moon-shin at the signing ceremony, stated, “SBS’s strategic investment in MD Entertainment last year was driven by our strong belief in the growth potential of the Southeast Asian content market, MD Entertainment’s business capabilities, and the synergies that can be created by both companies. This MoU serves as an important starting point to transform last year’s strategic investment into tangible business results and build long-term growth.”
Manoj Punjabi, President Director of MD Entertainment, added, “We are combining the best of both parties: SBS’s world-class content and MD Entertainment’s strength in the Indonesian market. SBS’s investment in us last year reflected a genuine confidence in what we have built, and this MoU is our step towards turning that confidence into concrete joint action, marking the beginning of a partnership that we hope will grow far beyond Southeast Asia.”
With a population of approximately 280 million, Indonesia continues to show increasing demand for local content, while its digital media market, including OTT platforms, is expanding rapidly, making it an increasingly attractive base for global content companies looking to strengthen their presence in the region.
