MCOT provides fund to find killer

BANGKOK (AFP): Four Thai mass communications agencies are
creating a reward fund to help find the killer of Saengchai
Sunthornwat, the director of the Mass Communications Organization
of Thailand (MCOT), a senior official of one of the agencies said
yesterday.

Private donations would be pooled toward a reward to anyone
who can provide information to lead to the arrest of the gunman
who shot the MCOT boss in a Bangkok suburb last Thursday night,
said Piphat Chanasongkram, program manager of the International
News Network (INN).

He said police had suggested a reward of 500,000 baht
(US$20,000). Any additional funds gathered would support mass
communications education in Thailand, he added.

The radio network INN, the two national television stations of
MCOT, the MCOT employees association and the Thai police's radio
department will team up and use their various media channels to
gather contributions, said Phiphat.
