PT Rekso Nasional Food, the operator of McDonald’s Indonesia, has announced that the company’s economic contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will reach Rp7.1 trillion by Thursday (30/4/2026). This milestone forms part of the celebration of 35 years of the restaurant chain’s operations in the country.

An economic impact analysis conducted by Oxford Economics reveals significant ripple effects from the company’s business activities. According to Ekonomi, every 100 workers directly recruited by the restaurant network supports approximately 330 additional jobs in other sectors.

Multiplier effects are also evident in financial activities, where every Rp1 million in economic value generated drives an additional Rp4.9 million in economic activity in supporting sectors. The affected sectors include agriculture, distribution, and local logistics services.

“Every Rp1 million in economic value generated drives an additional Rp4.9 million in economic activity in other sectors,” said Caroline Kurniadjaja, Associate Director of Marketing for McDonald’s Indonesia, during a media visit to Bisnis Indonesia in Jakarta.

Since its acquisition by PT Rekso Nasional Food in 2009, the number of outlets has grown rapidly from under 100 to more than 300. Michael Hartono, Director of Marketing for McDonald’s Indonesia, explained that expansion is now being carried out selectively in line with current market realities.

In efforts to improve distribution efficiency, the company has also increased the use of raw materials from local suppliers outside Java. One innovation that has received global approval is the use of tilapia from Lake Toba fish farmers for the Fish Fillet burger menu, replacing ingredients typically sourced from Alaska.

On the social front, from April 2024 to March 2025, the company has distributed donations exceeding Rp2.2 billion. A total of 72,000 meal portions have also been provided to orphanages, schools, and nursing homes in 96 different cities.

In anticipation of the upcoming major sporting event, McDonald’s Indonesia plans to launch a special programme themed around the 2026 World Cup. The programme will include social activities such as football training for underprivileged children and offers of tickets to watch the final match live in the United States for selected customers.
