Bangkalan (ANTARA) - The Task Force (Satgas) for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme in Bangkalan Regency, East Java, has discovered that 41 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) in the area do not yet possess halal certificates, which are a fundamental prerequisite for the programme’s implementation.

“The number of SPPG without halal certificates was found after we conducted direct field monitoring over the past week,” said the Head of the Bangkalan MBG Task Force, Bambang Budi Mustika, in Bangkalan, East Java, on Wednesday.

He explained that the total number of SPPG operating in Bangkalan Regency as of 5 April 2026 is 121, spread across 18 sub-districts in the regency.

Of that number, only 80 SPPG have obtained halal certificates, while the remaining 41 have not.

“We have reported this to the National Nutrition Agency, and the managers have been asked to promptly complete the requirements, as per regulations, the halal certificate is a primary prerequisite for programme managers,” he said.

In addition to possessing a halal certificate, other prerequisites that SPPG managers must fulfil include business entity legality, such as foundations, PTs, CVs, or cooperatives; having kitchen facilities that meet National Nutrition Agency (BGN) standards; providing complete cooking equipment; and passing field and administrative verification.

Managers are also required to adhere to nutritional standards, maintain sanitation, and submit regular reports.

Furthermore, managers are asked to provide training for MBG kitchen workers on food handling.

“The deadline we have set is one month. If within the specified time the SPPG does not complete and obtain the halal certificate, it is possible that they will be suspended,” he said.

The Head of the Bangkalan MBG Task Force, Bambang Budi Mustika, stated that overall, the implementation of the MBG programme in the area is improving, although at the start of implementation, several issues were found, such as substandard food and even student poisonings.
