MBG Task Force and BUMD Test CNG for Free Nutritious Meal Kitchens in Rembang
The Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Task Force of Rembang Regency, Central Java, together with the Regional Owned Enterprise (BUMD) PT Rembang Migas Energi (RME), has conducted a trial or ‘first ignition’ of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) usage at the Dorokandang Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) in Lasem District.
‘This aligns with our spirit to establish a food and economic ecosystem within the SPPG environment. The collaboration with the BUMD, in this case PT RME, is a very positive start,’ said the Chairman of the Rembang Regency MBG Task Force, Mochamad Hanies Cholil Barro, in Rembang on Tuesday.
He stated that the use of CNG is part of the effort to build a food and economic ecosystem around the SPPG while simultaneously increasing the operational efficiency of the MBG kitchens. Although only the initial trial has been conducted, he noted that seven SPPGs are already queued to use CNG out of the total 72 SPPGs planned to operate in Rembang Regency.
The Director of PT RME, Rizal Wijaya, stated that the use of CNG has proven to be more economical than LPG based on trial results over the past week. ‘In terms of usage, CNG has proven to be approximately 25-30 per cent more efficient. The price is also cheaper compared to LPG,’ he said. He added that from a safety perspective, the use of CNG carries low risk as long as users adhere to applicable safety and operational standards.
