MBG Supporters Rally at National Nutrition Agency Office

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Hundreds of people staging a peaceful demonstration in support of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme diverted their action from the Arjuna Wiwaha roundabout to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) office near Tugu Tani, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.

ANTARA monitoring showed the crowd, wearing white attributes and carrying posters supporting the MBG programme, moving in procession towards the BGN office under police escort.

In their speeches, representatives of the crowd expressed a desire to meet directly with BGN leadership to convey their aspirations regarding the implementation of the MBG programme, particularly concerning certainty for implementing partners.

The action coordinator also urged participants to maintain order while expressing their aspirations and to follow the directions of police officers throughout the journey to the location.

In addition to voicing support for the MBG programme, the crowd also requested that the programme’s implementation continue in line with its original objectives and be accompanied by a commitment to maintaining good governance.

A number of participants claimed to come from various regions in Indonesia and were present as representatives of MBG programme partners.

Before arriving in front of the BGN office, the crowd was urged by the police to hold their action on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan or around the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue area, Central Jakarta.

As of the time this report was filed, negotiations between the demonstrators and the police were still ongoing.
