MBG Reform Within 48 Hours
President Prabowo Subianto has replaced three top leaders of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) simultaneously, summoned 12,000 partners for consolidation, and issued a stern warning to those he described as ‘bastards’ to return to the right path. These steps serve as a powerful signal of corrective action.
On Tuesday morning, 2 June 2026, President Prabowo arrived at the Palmerah Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) in West Jakarta. Before entering the kitchen area, the President donned a hair net and gloves, inspecting the entire production chain, from the greenhouses used for harvesting vegetables and fish to the cooking areas and packaging stages. The Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, accompanied the President during the inspection.
From SPPG Palmerah, the President proceeded to SMPN 111 Jakarta. He entered the classroom, sat with students, joined in prayer, and ate the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) from the same containers as the students. The menu consisted of white rice, side dishes, vegetables, and an orange.
Later that evening, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi announced from the Presidential Palace Complex that Dadan Hindayana, along with two Deputy Heads of the BGN, Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung, had been officially dismissed. They were replaced by Nanik S. Deyang as Head of the BGN, with Agustina Arumsari and Major General TNI Trenggono appointed as deputies.
In the early hours of Wednesday, at 02:00 WIB, the Attorney General’s Office raided the BGN offices. Simultaneously, investigators forcibly picked up Dadan, Sony, and Lodewyk from different locations for questioning. By the afternoon, the three individuals emerged from the Attorney General’s Office wearing pink vests, handcuffed, and escorted to detention vehicles without making any statements to the gathered press.
On the same day, Wednesday, 3 June, President Prabowo addressed a crowd of 12,173 participants at the Sentral International Convention Centre in Bogor. The audience comprised heads of SPPG, nutrition fulfilment service offices, and MBG partners from various regions. This period of intense activity suggests a coordinated effort to reform the programme.
The government stated that the removal of the National Nutrition Agency leadership was the result of nearly 1.5 years of strict monitoring and evaluation. The assessment noted several serious violations, ranging from disciplinary issues regarding Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and weak governance to problems regarding food quality.
