MBG Programme Reaches Over 2 Million Beneficiaries in South Sumatra

The Palembang Nutrition Service Office (KPPG) has recorded that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme in South Sumatra Province has reached 2,036,667 beneficiaries spread across 17 districts and cities. Head of KPPG Palembang Nurya Hartika Sari stated on Friday that the distribution is supported by approximately 800 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) or meal kitchens currently operating throughout South Sumatra. She noted that efforts to equalise the programme are ongoing, as some areas are not yet fully covered. Currently, 10 SPPG units in South Sumatra are temporarily suspended because they need to meet requirements such as infrastructure readiness, standard-compliant wastewater treatment plants, waste management, and hygiene sanitation certification. Nurya added that the haze from forest and land fires in several parts of South Sumatra has not yet affected programme beneficiaries. Should the haze worsen and lead to school closures, the implementation of the MBG programme will be coordinated with relevant agencies, including the Regional Disaster Management Agency and the Education Office.
