Jakarta – Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara reported that spending on the Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) programme had reached Rp153.2 trillion by September 2026.

As of 30 September 2026, the programme had reached 57 million beneficiaries through 27,486 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi/SPPG).

“Specifically for Free Nutritious Meals, it had reached 57 million beneficiaries by the end of September. Spending was Rp153.2 trillion. We appreciate the various improvements made by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), which have made the programme more orderly: certificates are being used, and SPPG units that are not operating properly have been closed,” Suahasil said at the September 2026 APBN KiTa press conference in Jakarta on Friday (9 October 2026).

Suahasil said the BGN was continuing to make improvements to optimise MBG distribution, including tightening hygiene and sanitation standards at every SPPG.

One measure requires SPPG units to hold a Certificate of Hygiene and Sanitation Compliance (Sertifikat Laik Higiene Sanitasi/SLHS). The BGN has also closed 1,276 units that did not have the certificate.

The BGN is also expanding MBG services in disadvantaged, frontier and outermost (3T) areas by adding 480 SPPG units: 211 independently operated partner units and 269 units in remote areas. All are targeted to begin operating by the end of October 2026.

The BGN is also identifying beneficiaries to ensure MBG is distributed more effectively and reaches the intended recipients.

Suahasil said the Finance Ministry would continue to support the BGN’s improvement efforts.

The MBG budget allocation will be adjusted to the programme’s needs once the improvements are implemented.

“As a result, beneficiaries will be better targeted and the National Nutrition Agency will make MBG distribution more optimal. I understand that our colleagues at the BGN are continuing to seek improvements, which is positive. The budget will follow and be adjusted to what is needed; we will provide the required amount,” Suahasil said.
