MBG, KDMP, and Rupiah Weakening Among Issues Voiced by Students Besieging West Java DPRD Building

A demonstration by hundreds of students in front of the West Java DPRD building took place from 4 p.m. WIB until the time this report was filed on Monday (15/6/2026). The situation briefly heated up near Maghrib, causing the crowd to disperse. According to Republika’s observations, several firecrackers were suddenly ignited, triggering explosive sounds that scattered the crowd. Some ran to save themselves, while others remained in front of the West Java DPRD building. Afterwards, the crowd dispersed towards Jalan Diponegoro and the Surapati area. Police officers maintained a tight guard at the demonstration site. Officers urged the crowd to disperse. After Maghrib, the crowd remained on guard at the location. Abdul Malik, a student from UIN Sunan Gunung Djati, said various student elements initiated the demonstration in front of the West Java DPRD building. He stated the protest was a response to public anxiety over injustice and government arbitrariness. “We are conveying several demands. First, to stop the waste of the state budget. Within this demand, there are three main points: halting the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, halting the Red and White Village Cooperative (KDMP) programme, and stopping budget waste on overseas visits,” he said.
