MBG Budget Reaches Rp 88.15 Trillion as of May
The Ministry of Finance has reported that as of 31 May 2026, the realised budget usage for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme has reached Rp 88.15 trillion. This figure marks a 17.5 per cent increase from the previous month’s realisation of Rp 75 trillion.
“The budget for Free Nutritious Meals has now reached Rp 88.15 trillion, serving 63.13 million recipients,” stated Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa during the APBN KiTa press conference at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta on Friday, 5 June 2026.
This year, the government initially set an allocation of Rp 335 trillion for President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programme, which was subsequently reduced to Rp 268 trillion.
According to Purbaya’s presentation, the distribution of nutritious meals through the end of May 2026 has reached 63.13 million recipients, consisting of 48.9 million students and 14.3 million non-students. This number is a slight increase compared to April, which recorded 62 million recipients.
Meanwhile, the number of kitchens, known as Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), stood at 29,670 by the end of May. This figure also rose from approximately 27,700 SPPG recorded in the previous month.
On the same occasion, Purbaya stated that the Ministry of Finance can implement budget flexibility by cutting various expenditure items, including the MBG. However, he ensured that the state treasury currently remains sufficient. Regarding any potential budget cuts for the Nutritious Meal programme, he noted that such decisions depend on the President.
Purbaya added that the Head of State also desires the nutritious meal funds to be managed more efficiently. “The President clearly wants efficiency. If there were no such measures, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) would have been replaced and so on. This clearly demonstrates the President’s commitment to ensuring that spending is not arbitrary and to maintaining the fiscal deficit below 3 per cent,” he said.
