Mayors urged to find solutions to reckless JakLingko drivers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ongen Sangaji, a member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD from the NasDem faction, has asked the five administrative mayors of Jakarta to find solutions so that no more reckless JakLingko drivers are found, by holding coordination meetings with the relevant parties.
He said reckless JakLingko drivers can cause public distress.
“This has become a complaint and it is alarming, frightening and worrying for JakLingko users. Lately, drivers have been discourteous on the road,” Ongen said during a working meeting with the five mayors and the regent of the Thousand Islands in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Ongen highlighted the behaviour of a number of JakLingko drivers deemed reckless when driving on public roads, with the potential to endanger JakLingko users, other motorists and road users.
According to him, public complaints about the behaviour of JakLingko drivers have been found in almost all parts of Jakarta. This situation is considered to have made public transport users feel uneasy, afraid and uncomfortable.
Therefore, Ongen asked the five mayors, along with the Transportation Sub-departments in the five Jakarta regions, the 44 district heads and the Transportation Offices at district level, to carry out supervision and take action against reckless JakLingko drivers.
“So that with the meeting of the relevant parties, they can agree on a joint decision to take firm action against reckless JakLingko drivers,” said Ongen.
Furthermore, he questioned why there are still JakLingko drivers who drive at excessive speeds, especially since the JakLingko service receives support and incentives from the regional government through the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD).
He stressed that JakLingko drivers should not be chasing passenger targets by driving aggressively, thereby endangering the safety of road users.
“There is no reason for them to chase targets or whatever. They receive incentives from the APBD,” Ongen asserted.
He said the issue must also be a serious concern for the relevant regionally owned enterprises (BUMD) and PT Transportasi Jakarta (TransJakarta) as parties involved in providing the public transport service.
“There must not be certain targets that force them to race around and make the drivers reckless. That is why the JakLingko drivers must be strictly supervised,” said Ongen.
