Mayors told to help cooperatives

JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Governor for Economic and Development
Affairs TB. M. Rais has asked mayors as well as the heads of
district and subdistricts to support the company cooperatives in
their respective areas.

"The cooperatives should also improve their performances," he
said after symbolically handing over more than Rp 200 million in
development funds for four cooperatives in North, East and West
Jakarta, antara reported over the weekend.

The money, from the 1995/96 city budget, will be used to
renovate the offices of the cooperatives, Rais said.

There are 270 cooperatives under the auspices of the city
administration in 265 subdistricts. (sur)
