Mayor’s Joke: Pocong Doesn’t Dare Roam in Depok, Every Corner Has Become a Home
Mayor of Depok (Walkot) Supian Suri spoke about the hoax regarding a pocong roaming that went viral on social media. He urged all parties not to spread false information.
“Please help us eliminate the hoaxes in Depok City. Yesterday, a new hoax emerged about a pocong roaming in Depok,” said Supian in his speech at the 27th Depok City Anniversary Ceremony on Monday (27/4/2026).
He joked that the pocong wouldn’t be able to roam in Depok City because much of the land has been converted into housing. The issue of a pocong roaming in Pasir Putih Ward, Sawangan Subdistrict, had caused a stir among netizens the previous week.
“I kindly request, it seems the pocong no longer dares to roam in Depok City, because almost every corner of Depok City has become a home,” he stated.
He also brought up other mystical stories circulating and linked to Depok City. He said those stories have no truth to them.
“So I kindly request, don’t keep bullying Depok with things that actually no longer exist. There are no flying coffins in Depok City, no shape-shifting pigs in Depok City. There are also no pocongs wandering around in Depok City,” he explained.
Supian once again urged all parties to build pride in Depok City. He also said he wants to restore greening in Depok City.
“For that, schoolchildren, my children, help me, so that we keep this city as a city of pride for us all. Let us foster a sense of ownership, love for Depok City, as a manifestation done by entrepreneurs, observers, including educators and school parties,” he said.
“Today is Depok City’s Birthday, plants are given, not in the form of flower arrangements, because we want to realise a green Depok again for us all and the next generations,” he added.
Hoax Pocong in Depok
Police checked the truth of the viral pocong sighting in Pasir Putih, Sawangan, Depok City. Bojongsari Police Chief Kompol Fauzan Thohari said the sighting was a hoax.
“We have checked, together with the local RT Chairman, and that news is a hoax,” said Kompol Fauzan when contacted by reporters on Friday (24/4).
From the video received by detikcom, police directly checked RT 4/RW 4, Pasir Putih Ward, Sawangan, Depok. The local RT Chairman confirmed that the viral news was a hoax.
“We, the Chairman of Environment RT 04 RW 04 Pasir Putih Ward, wish to state that the current viral news on social media about the pocong is not true,” said the RT Chairman.
He said after checks were conducted, there was no pocong sighting incident in his area. The news of the pocong sighting had caused a commotion among residents.
