Mayoral election intimidation

TANGERANG: Dozens of unknown men riding motorcycles and wearing dark uniforms and berets shocked civil servants at the municipal administration office on Monday.

Without saying a single word, the men suddenly entered the office compound on their noisy motorcycles. After parking the vehicles, they dispersed and attached stickers on every office window and then left in a hurry.

The stickers read "Tangerang residents only support mayoral candidates who are Tangerang natives."

"We thought they would attack this office or would stage a rally at least," said the administration spokesman Hery Kusnadi.

He said mayor M. Thamrin's tenure would end in November this year. But as of today, there had been no reports about any mayoral candidates. --JP
