Mayor will abide by court's verdict
JAKARTA (JP): North Jakarta mayor Soeprawito says he will
abide by the verdict made by Central Jakarta Court on a civil law
suit filed by 26 residents of the Pademangan Timur subdistrict
over a land dispute.
In its session on March 22, judges at Central Jakarta Court
required the accused, namely the mayor and several other
mayoralty officials, to pay Rp 1 million for each violation of
the law which infringed on the rights of the plaintiffs.
Soeprawito said he has filed a counter lawsuit, with the same
court, against the accusation leveled by the 26 people against
him and several of his subordinates.
The residents have been adamant in their demand that the
compensation rate be set at Rp 1.5 million per square meter.
The land, formerly the Kemayoran airport, covers a total of
450 hectares. The 26 residents are only occupying 4,000 square
meters.
The government is planning to build a flyover and 10 office
buildings, for state-run companies, on the disputed land, Antara
reported. (bas)
