Mayor promises better service

JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta Mayor Sutardjianto has asked his staffers to improve public service.

"Render good service and don't give people anymore trouble," the mayor said when installing Sofyan Hadi as head of the office overseeing development and Mohammad Djunaidi as head of the treasury office.

Sutardjianto told mayoralty officials to be polite to people tending to their business and render speedy service to applicants of building permits.

The West Jakarta mayoralty is struggling to shed its image as a government office which offers poor service, such as imposing complicated bureaucratic procedures and charging illegal levies.

Sutardjianto promised that the mayoralty will shorten the time applicants needed to obtain building permits to one day. (29)
