Mayor of Depok Inaugurates Construction of HKBP Church in Pancoran Mas, Hopes to Strengthen Brotherhood and Harmony

The Depok City Government, West Java, has expressed its appreciation for the establishment of the new church, viewing it both as a representative worship facility and a symbol of religious harmony within the city. This support was conveyed directly by the Mayor of Depok, Supian Suri, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) Depok 1 Church, located on Jalan Cenderawasih, Depok Jaya, Pancoran Mas.

“On behalf of the Depok City Government, I appreciate the congregation’s contribution to the construction of the HKBP Depok 1 Church in Pancoran Mas, making it a symbol of harmony,” said Supian Suri on Saturday (6/6/2026). The Mayor noted that the role of the church is a strategic partner to the government in serving the community and developing the region. He expressed hope that this support would not only provide a comfortable place of worship but also strengthen tolerance and harmony in social life.

The Depok City Government stated firmly that it will not tolerate groups that obstruct or reject the rights of citizens to establish legitimate churches or places of worship. “The local government adheres strictly to the constitution and guarantees the right to freedom of religion. If there are obstacles, the local government urges that they be resolved through deliberation, proper socialisation, and in accordance with applicable procedures. The right to worship and to establish churches or places of worship is protected by the 1945 Constitution,” he added.

The Chairman of the HKBP Depok 1 Pancoran Mas Construction Committee, Helbert Manalu, stated that the construction of the church requires a budget of Rp 21 billion. “The construction budget for the HKBP Depok 1 Pancoran Mas Church reaches Rp 21 billion. This is a significant figure because the church will be a three-storey building situated on a land area of 1,923 square metres,” he said.
