Mayor installed amid tight security

SURABAYA: The Mojokerto mayor, Teguh Sanyoto, and the Kediri,
mayor, Maschut, were installed on Saturday by East Java Governor
Imam Utomo under tight security following an investigation by the
Ministry of Home Affairs into reports of money politics.

The investigation had led to a delay of the installment,
Antara reported on Saturday.

The investigation into reports involving bribes to local
legislature members related to the candidacy of both mayoral
positions did not find any evidence supporting the charges. The
Minister of Home Affairs, therefore, agreed to the installment of
both mayors.

A peaceful demonstration went on outside the ceremony area.
