Mayor Illiza Leads Forkopimda Meeting to Discuss Current Issues in Banda Aceh
The Mayor of Banda Aceh, Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal, led a meeting with members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) to discuss several current issues in Banda Aceh on Thursday (1/10/2026). Held at the Mayor’s Residence, the meeting focused on various anticipatory measures and the government’s readiness, alongside relevant stakeholders, to maintain security, order, and public services.
One of the primary focuses of the meeting was the preparation for the 2nd International Sufi Tawhid Muzakarah, scheduled to take place from 9–11 October 2026. The event, which is expected to attract between 20,000 and 30,000 participants, will be held across several locations, including Balai Meuseuraya Aceh, Blang Padang, and the Banda Aceh Hajj Embarkation Dormitory. Preparations encompass security, traffic management, health, cleanliness, and accommodation.
Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal emphasised the importance of cross-sector coordination in facing such a major agenda. “We must ensure that all elements are moving and coordinating effectively, so that every activity can proceed safely and orderly, and the community remains comfortable,” said Illability.
In addition to that agenda, Forkopimda also discussed anticipatory measures regarding the GAM Anniversary, emphasising early detection, communication, and coordination with village heads (keuchik) and relevant parties. Lessons from events on 15 August 2026 were used as evaluation material to ensure potential security and order disturbances can be anticipated early.
The meeting also highlighted issues concerning the younger generation, specifically cases of alleged bullying and violence in schools, as well as juvenile delinquency. The government emphasised the need for supervision and guidance for children by involving schools, parents, villages (gampong), the police, the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and Sharia Police (WH), and the Department of Transportation.
Regarding the Sharia sector, health, and public protection, the handling of HIV/AIDS was also discussed, including the mapping of at-risk populations, testing, counselling, treatment, assistance, and the protection of patient confidentiality. The City Government also encouraged the optimisation of Satpol PP and WH posts as centres for guidance, service, and community response, involving village heads, imams, youth, parents, the Health Office, MPU, MAA, and Forkopimda.
On the other hand, preparedness for weather conditions and issues directly affecting the community were also prioritised. The government is anticipating the potential for heavy rain, lightning, strong winds, flooding, fallen trees, and traffic disruptions, while simultaneously monitoring fuel queues and the development of inflation in Banda Aceh, which was recorded at 4.84 per cent in August 2026.
